Updated: 2/19/20
The NFL Season may be over, but things are about to get very interesting come Wednesday, March 18th. It is not every day that passing yards leader, rushing yards and touchdowns leader, sacks leader, and co-interceptions leader all hit the open market at the same time. In fact, there has never been a time when this many starting-caliber quarterbacks have potential to change teams. The NFL off-season has become a spectacle of sorts over the last few years and teams did not shy away from making a few blockbuster deals before free agency even began last year. 22 teams entering 2020 with at least $30 million in cap space, which could warrant a changing of the landscape across the league. Before we throw out our hypotheticals of what might go down, we have to see who is available and what the latest is surrounding each player. In what is a rather strong free agency class, here is my list of top 100 unrestricted free agents in the NFL.
Important Upcoming NFL Dates:
- 2/24-3/2 – Scouting Combine
- 2/25-3/10 – Franchise Tag Period
- 3/16-3/18 – Clubs are permitted to negotiate with unrestricted free agents
- 3/18 at 4pm ET – New league year begins; all teams must be under the salary cap; players are free to sign with teams.
- 4/17 – Deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets.
- 4/23-4/25 – 2020 NFL Draft
*Being an unrestricted free agent gives the player the ability to sign with an team he desires, so as long as he was not franchise tagged by the March 10th deadline.*
Top 100 Unrestricted Free Agents
1. QB Dak Prescott – Dallas Cowboys
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 16 games, 4,902 passing yards, 30 TD 11 INTs, Comp. Pct: 65.1%, 71.2 QBR (4th), PFF Grade: 80.3
It is not that often that a franchise quarterback in his prime enters unrestricted free agency, which ultimately puts Dak atop of a loaded 2020 free agency class. Prescott finished his 4th season with career high numbers in yards, touchdowns, and QBR, albeit in a relatively down year leading a rather talented team. Whether or not he can become a top tier quarterback remains to be seen, but his intangibles and leadership have further proven he can lead a quality team, just how far is the $35 million dollar question. The Cowboys have publicly stated they would like to get a deal done before the March 10th deadline for the franchise tag, however until the pair are able to put pen to paper, he should be considered a high commodity.
2. DE Jadeveon Clowney – Seattle Seahawks
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 13 games, 31 Comb. Tackles, 3 sacks, 7 TFLs, 13 QB Hits, 4 PD, 1 INT, 4 FF, 2 FR, 1 TD, PFF Grade: 87.3
Clowney was able to put together yet another solid year after being traded to Seattle last August. Although he has never put together a truly dominant year one would expect from a former number one overall pick, he has been a steady presence, especially against the run in his first six seasons in the NFL. He should not have to wait long to lock up a long term deal, presumably from the Seahawks once free agency begins.
3. QB Tom Brady – New England Patriots
Age: 42
2019 Stats: 16 games, 4,057 passing yards, 24 TD 8 INTs, Comp. Pct: 60.8%, 53.7 QBR (T-16th), PFF Grade: 80.3
As shocking as it may be, it seems more and more likely by the day the Patriots and franchise quarterback of 20 years are heading towards a divorce. Although Brady has entered the realm of no longer elite status, he is still has strong veteran leadership, along with the ability to protect the football. Any team looking to transition into a winning culture should welcome the six-time Super Bowl champ with open arms, and in return will have the ability to compete for a playoff run for the next couple of years.
4. WR Amari Cooper – Dallas Cowboys
Age: 25
2019 Stats: 16 games, 79 REC, 1189 yds, 15.1 YPC, 8 TDs, Catch Pct: 66.4%, PFF Grade: 84.1
The 25 year-old has had a mixed bag of emotions since being traded to Dallas at the 2018 trade deadline. He has at times looked dominant, feasting on weaker groups of defensive backs, but has often times been shut down when going up against the NFL’s elite. Regardless of the inconsistencies, the four-time Pro Bowler should be highly coveted among many WR-needy teams among the contenders. The decision on Cooper heavily ties into what Dallas decides to do with Dak Prescott. Should the ‘Boys sign him to a long term deal, expect Cooper to be the first of a handful of franchise tag-ees.
5. DL Arik Armstead – San Francisco 49ers
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 16 games, 54 Comb. Tackles, 10 sacks, 11 TFLs, 18 QB Hits, 2 FF, 1 FR, PFF Grade: 89.8
Perhaps the most underrated player amongst the NFL’s top defensive line this past season, Armstead hit free agency at the right time. He was a force all year for the 49ers, including two additional sacks in the post season en route to an appearance in Super Bowl LIV. Due to San Francisco’s lack of cap space and lack of candidates for potential cap casualties, it looks as though Armstead could one of the top big named free agents to switch teams this off-season. His phone should be busy this March.
6. Edge Shaquil Barrett – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 16 games, 58 Comb. Tackles, 19.5 sacks, 3 PD, 1 INT, 6 FF, PFF Grade: 76.6
No one helped his stock more than Shaquil Barrett did in 2019. He bet on himself, signing a one year deal last off-season and responded with a league-leading 19.5 sacks, including 6 forced fumbles. Tampa Bay has plenty of cap space, but a hefty chunk will have to go to second-team All-Pro in order to retain him, even though
7. DE Yannick Ngakoue – Jacksonville Jaguars
Age: 24
2019 Stats: 15 games, 41 Comb. Tackles, 8 sacks, 13 TFLs, 15 QB Hits, 7 PD, 1 INT, 4 FF, 1 FR, 1 TD, PFF Grade: 72.0
Ngakoue has been incredibly consistent and durable during his last three years as a Jaguar. He has averaged just under 10 sacks per season during that time, while only missing one game thus far in his career. Teams can never have enough pass rushers, and getting one that will only be 25 come September gives plenty of optimism to get a return on a rather high investment. The Jaguars enter the off-season in the red in terms of cap space, so a franchise tag will not get in the way of getting his desired deal in a month’s time.
8. G Brandon Scherff – Washington Redskins
Age: 28
2019 Stats: 11 games, 1 Sack Allowed, 9 Penalties, PFF Grade: 75.0
The three-time Pro-Bowler was play at a rock solid level before being put on IR with a pair of injuries to his shoulder and elbow. Scherff has been upcoming the NFL’s elite at the guard position since being drafted in 2015. The Redskins would surely like to bring back the veteran to protect their future signal caller, as well as Trent Williams, but it remains to be seen what direction the organization will go with a GM yet to be signed.
9. CB Byron Jones – Dallas Cowboys
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 15 games, 44 Comb. Tackles, 6 PD, 0 INTs, 1 FF, PFF Grade: 76.1
Jones is an interesting case at corner. He has been one of the most versatile defensive backs since he entered the league in 2015 with a career PFF grade of 73.9. His only knock, however, has been his inability to create turnovers, having only two career interceptions in five seasons and none in the last two years. Being the top defensive back on the market, someone is going to give him a deal, but who remains to be seen. Considering the Cowboys have 31 pending free agents, and the fact that he could command more than $15 million per year, they will likely have to part ways with the former Husky, unless they work some magic with their current contracts.
10. OT Jack Conklin – Tennessee Titans
Age: 25
2019 Stats: 16 games, 4 Sacks Allowed, 7 Penalties, PFF Grade: 78.0
It is very rare a former top 10 pick becomes a quality starter, yet does not get his 5th year option picked up, but that is the case we have in Conklin. He has been a reliable player, playing in all 16 games in three of his first four seasons. Although he has accumulated a fair amount of penalties, he has countered that with overall solid play. He may not become a perennial Pro Bowler, but he has the ability to anchor the right side of the line for at least the next half decade. Considering what Raiders tackle Trent Brown was able to get last year, Conklin should be licking his chops to see what rolls his way.
11. S Justin Simmons – Denver Broncos
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 16 games, 93 Comb. Tackles, 4 INTs, 19 PD, PFF Grade: 90.8
A Pro Bowl snub did not stop the press from awarding Simmons with a second-team All-Pro nod in 2019. The safety showed a tremendous knack for the ball all year, ending the year in the top 10 in both interceptions and pass deflections. Plenty of teams have a need for an all-around safety, so the Boston College alumnus will have plenty of suitors. – Update: John Elway has reportedly said Simmons will be subject to the franchise tag if a long deal cannot get done.
12. LB Cory Littleton – Los Angeles Rams
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 16 games, 134 Comb. Tackles, 3.5 sacks, 6 TFLs, 11 PD, 2 INT, 2 FF, 4 FR, PFF Grade: 78.9
Littleton has developed into a modern day stalwart at inside linebacker. His ability to both cover and tackle have been well documented since he took over the starting gig in 2018. He has been among the top ten in tackles in each of the past two seasons while combining for nine takeaways over that span. The 4th year pro has also yet to miss a game early in his career. Those feats bode well for teams looking to build their defense around a young linebacker entering his prime.
13. TE Austin Hooper – Atlanta Falcons
Age: 25
2019 Stats: 13 games, 75 REC, 787 yds, 10.5 YPC, 6 TDs, Catch Pct: 77.3%, PFF Grade: 78.3
Hooper had a career year in 2019 in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, despite playing the fewest games of his career. Several teams need a reliable target to move the chains, and the fourth year pro has grown to fit that mold. The Falcons enter the off-season with the 4th fewest cap space in the NFL, so they could be reluctant to make competitive offers based on what Hooper might get from other teams. Plenty of dollars should be coming his way. –Update: The Falcons announced they will allow Hooper to test the FA market.
14. TE Hunter Henry – Los Angeles Chargers
Age: 25
2019 Stats: 12 games, 55 REC, 652 yds, 11.9 YPC, 5 TDs, Catch Pct: 72.4%, PFF Grade: 73.1
Henry, like Hooper has cemented himself as one of the brightest young targets at his position. The concern with the former, however is durability. Henry has battled injuries early on in his career, and has yet to log a full season. Despite this, he has posted solid numbers when healthy, which is reason enough to invest in the former Razorback in the long term. The Chargers should be in the running to retain him, especially if they are able to convince a veteran quarterback to join and return the team back into playoff contention. He won’t be waiting long to find a home.
15. OLB Bud Dupree – Pittsburgh Steelers
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 16 games, 68 Comb. Tackles, 11.5 sacks, 16 TFLs, 17 QB Hits, 4 FF, 2 FR, PFF Grade: 77.7
Dupree had a rather rough start to his career, but found his stride in 2019, posting career numbers in his contract year. Due to the Steelers’ deficiencies in terms of cap space, the recently turned 27 year-old will likely be finding a new home in 2020. There should be a huge market for the Kentucky product’s services.
16. RB Derrick Henry – Tennessee Titans
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 15 games, 303 Carries, 1540 rush yds, 5.1 YPC, 18 REC, 206 rec yds, 18 TDs, PFF Grade: 76.2
Henry continued the momentum from the second half of the 2018 season to break out and lead the NFL in rushing in 2019. He went on to have one of the most memorable post season runs in recent memory after the sixth-seeded Titans rode him en route to upset wins over both the defending champion Patriots and top-seeded Ravens before losing in the AFC title game. The former Heisman winner has been surprisingly durable thus far in his career for a running back of his stature also. The big question will be what his asking price is. Running back contracts have become a huge issue for teams in recent years with the likes of David Johnson, Devonta Freeman, and Todd Gurley setting the market. Zeke and Le’Veon’s deals last off-season do not necessary suggest that Henry will be able to convince Tennessee to make him among the highest paid at his position, either. The Titans will be in a tough spot deciding the direction they want to go this off-season.
17. S Anthony Harris – Minnesota Vikings
Age: 28
2019 Stats: 14 games, 60 Comb. Tackles, 6 INTs, 17 PD, 1 FR, 1 TD, PFF Grade: 90.5
Despite having a 5-time Pro Bowler to share the defensive backfield with, one could argue Harris had just as good, if not a better season after finishing as the co-interceptions leader. Harris constantly made plays all season, including an interception of Drew Brees in the upset Wild-Card win over the Saints. He may have outplayed the price tag Minnesota will be willing to pay, and considering they are dead last in cap space, Harris may find himself elsewhere in 2020.
18. QB Ryan Tannehill – Tennessee Titans
Age: 31
2019 Stats: 12 games, 2,742 passing yards, 22 TD 6 INTs, Comp. Pct: 70.3%, 62.2 QBR (9th), PFF Grade: 92.5
After being traded for a late round pick, Tannehill was able to revive not only his career, but the Titans season after taking over a quarter way into the 2019 season. The former Dolphin led the NFL in passer rating and yards per attempt, while posting career highs in completion percentage and TD:INT ratio. Tennessee has already expressed interest in bringing back the seven year veteran after he was able to lead the franchise to its first AFC Championship appearance since 2002, but it will likely be on the short term in the range of 2-3 years. Would not be surprised to see a franchise tag be thrown his way either.
19. OT Anthony Castonzo – Indianapolis Colts
Age: 31
2019 Stats: 16 games, 3 Sacks Allowed, 2 Penalties, PFF Grade: 81.3
Castonzo has been a reliable presence for the Colts since he was drafted in 2011. He has only missed eight games in the last eight seasons while having a Pro Football Focus grade of at least 77 in every year since 2012. The Colts have over $86 million in cap space, so I would not be surprised to see them keep a veteran presence on a budding offensive line. -Update: The Colts announced a deal is close to done to bring back Castonzo.
20. G Joe Thuney – New England Patriots
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 16 games, 1 Sack Allowed, 0 Penalties, PFF Grade: 77.4
Thuney became a very reliable starter during his tenure with New England. In his last two full seasons, he has allowed only one sack and committed only four penalties (all in 2018). He did all of this while playing the 2nd and 3rd most snaps respectively among all guards across the league during the previous two years. He was also able to earn second-team All-Pro honors in 2019. The Patriots have had a tendency to let top dollar players walk in free agency, so it seems as if the 27 year-old will be wearing new colors come next season.
21. Edge Dante Fowler Jr. – Los Angeles Rams
Age: 25
2019 Stats: 16 games, 58 Comb. Tackles, 11.5 sacks, 16 TFLs, 16 QB Hits, 2 FF, 1 FR, 1 TD, PFF Grade: 72.1
The former top five pick was trending towards bust status until a trade in 2018 to Los Angeles rejuvenated his young career. Fowler posted a double digit sack season for the first time in his career in 2019 while also achieving career highs in tackles, TFLs, and QB hits. He is a raw talent that will thrive in the right situation, however these are the types of players that tend to not live up to those big contracts. A huge risk here, but for the right price, could be a quality addition to several teams.
22. DE Everson Griffen – Minnesota Vikings
Age: 32
2019 Stats: 15 games, 41 Comb. Tackles, 8 sacks, 11 TFLs, 24 QB Hits, 1 INT, PFF Grade: 77.6
Griffen earned his 4th Pro Bowl nod in 2019, showing off his abilities as a disruptor. After 10 seasons with the Vikings, the former Trojan voided the remaining years on his deal to become a free agent for the first time in his career to assist Minnesota with their cap situation. While both sides are reportedly interested in reuniting at a reduced salary, the team has a long way still to go to free up enough cap space to even retain him. I would not be surprised to see another contender convince him to change colors with a more enticing deal.
23. CB Chris Harris Jr. – Denver Broncos
Age: 30
2019 Stats: 16 games, 56 Comb. Tackles, 7 PD, 1 INT, 4 FF, 1 FR, PFF Grade: 69.9
Harris has been playing at an elite level for a long time, but seems destined to move into a new situation come next month after trade attempts by the Broncos failed to come together at the trade deadline. Harris still has a few years left in the tank and will bring veteran leadership to defensive backfields that have a lacking for it. This is likely going to be his last big deal, so expect Harris to try and gather every penny he can when negotiations come about.
24. DL Leonard Williams – New York Giants
Age: 25
2019 Stats: 15 games, 43 Comb. Tackles, 1 sack, 2 TFLs, 16 QB Hits, 2 PD, 1 FF, PFF Grade: 70.6
Williams started off his career strong, going to a Pro Bowl in just his second year, however struggled in his fifth year, ultimately leading to be traded within the same city to the Giants. His struggles may have very well been tied to a scheme fit, and perhaps a reunion with former Jets Head Coach Todd Bowles in Tampa Bay could fix matters. Either way, it looks as though the former Trojan will be enjoying a change of scenery in the spring.
25. DT D.J. Reader – Houston Texans
Age: 25
2019 Stats: 15 games, 52 Comb. Tackles, 2.5 sacks, 6 TFLs, 13 QB Hits, PFF Grade: 86.7
Reader has become an elite run stopper over the last few seasons, and 2019 was no different. The near 350 pound nose tackle has had no trouble plugging gaps and will be breaking the bank because of it. Houston struggled mightily against the run when J.J. Watt went down, so they can ill afford to allow their next best lineman walk when they have the cap space to get an extension done.
26. DT Javon Hargrave – Pittsburgh Steelers
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 16 games, 60 Comb. Tackles, 4 sacks, 7 TFLs, 6 QB Hits, 1 FF, 1 FR, PFF Grade: 83.4
Hargrave has been a staple on a Pittsburgh defense that has become one of the NFL’s elite in recent years. While the Steelers would love to retain him, the former third round pick may have become too expensive for the black and yellow to retain. After signing with a new agent in Drew Rosenhaus, expect teams with plenty of cap space to be bidding for his services.
27. QB Jameis Winston – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 16 games, 5,109 passing yards, 33 TD 30 INTs, Comp. Pct: 60.7%, 53.7 QBR (T-16th), PFF Grade: 68.4
The 2019 passing yards leader was inconsistently consistent all year long for the Bucs. At times, he would be firing on all cylinders, but not before throwing a pick or two first. The former Heisman winner has struggled throughout his career protecting the football, but there is no denying how talented he can be should he fix this issue. He is hoping his new surgically repaired eyesight will help in that matter. Although he may not get the $30 million he is asking for, the 30 for 30 man’s best bet might be to play under the franchise tag in 2020.
28. QB Teddy Bridgewater – New Orleans Saints
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 9 games, 1,384 passing yards, 9 TD 2 INTs, Comp. Pct: 67.9%, 48.9 QBR (Did not qualify), PFF Grade: 73.0
The biggest wild card in free agency comes in the likes of the veteran quarterback after the news of Drew Brees returning ultimately guarantees a new gig for Bridgewater. His 5-0 run as a replacement starter for the Saints caught the attention of plenty of teams across the league looking for a new starter. He likely will come to serve as a transition starter for the next few seasons, but will earn a nice chunk of change in the process.
29. WR A.J. Green – Cincinnati Bengals
Age: 31
2019- DNP (Ankle)
2018- 9 games, 46 REC, 694 yds, 15.1 YPC, 6 TDs, Catch Pct: 59.7%, PFF Grade: 85.2
Green is in such a tricky situation. He has been an elite receiver since entering the league, making the Pro Bowl in each of the first seven seasons, however the last two have told a different story. He has only been able to accumulate action in nine of the last 32 games after suffering multiple injuries during that time span. There is no denying his talent, but who knows how much of a fall off we will see from the former Bulldog when the soon to be 32 year-old takes the field in September. Plenty of teams could use his services, but we might have to wait and see what kind of a market the nine year pro draws. – Update: HC Zac Taylor said he fully expects Green to be a part of the Bengals in 2020.
30. S Devin McCourty – New England Patriots
Age: 32
2019 Stats: 16 games, 58 Comb. Tackles, 5 INTS, 12 PD, 2 FF, 1 FR, PFF Grade: 80.7
The ten year pro has been a consistent force playing for the only team he has ever known. While New England tends to allow their veterans to walk, this one would feel a tad strange, considering he has been the ultimate Patriot over the last decade. Couple that with suiting up with his twin brother Jason, and it gives all the more reason that safety Devin could look to finish his career with the Patriots.
31. OT Bryan Bulaga – Green Bay Packers
Age: 31
2019 Stats: 16 games, 4 Sacks Allowed, 6 Penalties, PFF Grade: 77.9
The former Hawkeye has been manning the right side of the line for the Packers since he was drafted in the first round in 2010. While the Packers would love to have him back, they might have a reluctance to spend this off-season after coughing up roughly $183 million on free agents last year, which could lead to a departure for the tackle.
32. S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix – Chicago Bears
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 16 games, 78 Comb. Tackles, 7 PD, 2 INT, 2 FR, 1 TD, PFF Grade: 74.2
Clinton-Dix bet on himself last year, signing a one-year deal with the Bears and he delivered with yet another solid year. In six full seasons in the NFL, he has yet to miss a game and has also shown the versatility with the ability to play both safety positions. The 27 year-old is set to enter his prime, which could lead to a long term deal, likely with his 4th team in three seasons.
33. OLB Matt Judon – Baltimore Ravens
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 16 games, 54 Comb. Tackles, 9.5 sacks, 14 TFLs, 33 QB Hits, 4 FF, PFF Grade: 70.5
Judon made the most of his opportunity following the departures of Terrell Suggs and Z’Darius Smith, posting career highs in sacks, forced fumbles and quarterback hits, en route to his first Pro Bowl nod. The Ravens can ill-afford to lose another pass rusher to a unit that finished tied for the fifth fewest sacks in the league, a small blemish to an otherwise phenomenal season. Judon’s market could significantly rise should the top tier of edge rushers such as Dupree, Barrett and Fowler be locked up early in free agency.
34. CB Logan Ryan – Tennessee Titans
Age: 29
2019 Stats: 16 games, 113 Comb. Tackles, 4 INTs, 4.5 sacks, 22 PD, 4 FF, PFF Grade: 64.9
Ryan had a great year overall in terms of numbers in 2019, finishing near or at the top of most statistical categories for cornerbacks. While he had great numbers, he was also the most targeted corner, while giving up a league high 80 receptions. Regardless, he has been productive enough throughout his career to warrant a nice salary this off-season. Teams should be weary of giving him top tier corner money, though.
35. RB Melvin Gordon III – Los Angeles Chargers
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 12 games, 162 Carries, 612 rush yds, 3.8 YPC, 42 REC, 296 rec yds, 9 TDs, PFF Grade: 66.0
It is safe to say that the holdout into the season did not necessarily pan out in Gordon’s favor. While he has established himself as a quality dual threat back, he took a massive step back in terms of yards per carry (2018: 5.1 YPC, 2019: 3.8 YPC). Coupling that with his injury history adds plenty of risk for a guy at a position that not many teams will pay top dollar for. He will be an upgrade over plenty of RB situations across the league in the short term, but this is a free agent whose status is worth monitoring next month.
36. WR Robby Anderson – New York Jets
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 16 games, 52 REC, 779 yds, 15.0 YPC, 5 TDs, Catch Pct: 54.2%, PFF Grade: 68.6
Anderson has turned into a solid deep threat over the last couple of years. While Gang Green has reported it is unlikely the young star will return, plenty of teams could use of the former undrafted receiver as a complementary piece for any team that needs an extra bit of speed from the outside.
37. RB Kenyan Drake – Arizona Cardinals
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 14 games, 170 Carries, 817 rush yds, 4.8 YPC, 50 REC, 345 rec yds, 8 TDs, PFF Grade: 71.2
Drake had a tale of two halves in 2019. He struggled to find ground with the Dolphins early on and after accumulating 180 rush yards through six games, he was dealt to the Cardinals for a conditional 6th rounder. Upon arrival, Drake beat out David Johnson for the starting gig and finished the year strong with 363 yards and seven scores over the last three games. It does not seem plausible to bring back Drake while already obtaining a cap hit north of $14 million for Johnson. They could deal him and take on Drake at a cheaper rate, but the dead money for the Cards could warrant them dealing extra compensation for a team to take on Johnson’s contract.
38. WR Emmanuel Sanders – San Francisco 49ers
Age: 33
2019 Stats: 17 games, 66 REC, 869 yds, 13.2 YPC, 5 TDs, Catch Pct: 68.0%, PFF Grade: 78.4
Sanders was an integral part of the 49ers Super Bowl run, even though he struggled at times to statistically make an impact, albeit on a team that relied heavily on the run game. The two-time Super Bowl champ seemed to lose a fair share of targets to rookie Deebo Samuel as the season waned, averaging just over two catches a game over the final six games of the season. While he is not what he once was, he still has the ability to make an impact in spurts, so plenty of teams could come calling.
39. S Jimmie Ward – San Francisco 49ers
Age: 28
2019 Stats: 13 games, 60 Comb. Tackles, 8 PD, 0 INTs, 1 sack, PFF Grade: 84.2
Despite a career year for Ward, including a game-high 11 tackles in the Super Bowl, the future for the 28 year-old remains a mystery. The 49ers start the off-season with little cap space, and while they could maneuver with a few moves, investing in a safety that has missed 24 games over the last four years could force the team to make Ward a lower priority amid potential acquisitions for the 2020 season.
40. CB Bradley Roby – Houston Texans
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 10 games, 38 Comb. Tackles, 2 INTs, 10 PD, 1 sack, 1 FF, 1 TD, PFF Grade: 66.8
Roby had an overall solid year in his lone season with the Texans. He was at times a lone bright spot for a team that struggled to field starting cornerbacks due to injuries and poor performance. It would be ideal for the franchise to not lose another one year rental after allowing Tyrann Mathieu walk and become an impact player on the eventual Super Bowl champions. Roby’s strength is playing from the slot, but has at times struggled with inconsistency issues over his career.
41. DE Robert Quinn – Dallas Cowboys
Age: 29
2019 Stats: 14 games, 34 Comb. Tackles, 11.5 sacks, 13 TFLs, 22 QB Hits, 2 FF, PFF Grade: 68.5
Quinn turned his career back on track after posting his first double-digit sack season since 2014. He has expressed interest in returning to Dallas, however with all moves the Cowboys need to make this off-season, Quinn may not be around long enough to wait on a decision. He should not find trouble finding a starting gig on a 2-3 year deal.
42. OT Jason Peters – Philadelphia Eagles
Age: 38
2019 Stats: 13 games, 3 Sacks Allowed, 10 Penalties, PFF Grade: 81.8
Peters may be up there in age, but his production has remained elite, even in his 16th year as a pro. The blindside blocker was a key piece for an offensive line that Pro Football Focus ranked number one in the league at the end of the season. The Eagles may still move on from the future Hall of Famer after 11 seasons and opt to go with their 2019 first founder Andre Dillard instead. Nevertheless, Peters should be an upgrade for the majority of teams at a low risk deal for likely one year.
43. TE Eric Ebron – Indianapolis Colts
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 11 games, 31 REC, 375 yds, 12.1 YPC, 3 TDs, Catch Pct: 59.6%, PFF Grade: 71.1
Despite a down year statistically compared to 2018, Ebron has proven to be a reliable target from the tight end position since he signed with Colts, despite sharing time with Jack Doyle. Due to the latter scoring a three year extension before the conclusion of the season, it all but signals a departure for the former Tar Heel. His catch percentage leaves much to be desired, but he can become a key piece to a passing attack should he fall into the right situation.
44. DL Shelby Harris – Denver Broncos
Age: 28
2019 Stats: 16 games, 49 Comb. Tackles, 6 sacks, 8 TFLs, 6 QB Hits, 9 PD, 1 FF, PFF Grade: 76.8
In his first full season as a starter, the defensive lineman really came into his own, especially against the run. Harris has stated his desire to return to the Broncos, however it may come at a steep price. Sports Illustrated reported that he may garner upwards for $12 million annually. The former seventh round pick should be expecting a huge pay raise.
45. DT Gerald McCoy – Carolina Panthers
Age: 32
2019 Stats: 16 games, 37 Comb. Tackles, 5 sacks, 7 TFLs, 13 QB Hits, PFF Grade: 72.0
Although he may be past his physical peak, McCoy still had a serviceable year in his one year stint with the Panthers. He provides a veteran leadership that many teams desire, which leads me to believe there a plenty of teams that would clear a spot for him. The six-time Pro Bowler has yet to make an appearance in his career, so he may learn towards a contender, potentially even the Ravens, who were close to signing him last off-season.
46. DT Michael Pierce – Baltimore Ravens
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 14 games, 35 Comb. Tackles, .5 sack, 2 TFLs, 1 FR, PFF Grade: 69.2
Moving on from Pierce would quite literally leave a massive hole to fill. Pairing him with Brandon Williams gave Baltimore the biggest defensive interior in the league, however the team could opt to go in another direction after they were gashed for a buck ninety-five by rushing leader Derrick Henry in the divisional round loss. Pierce is a fine player that could end up being a rather low cost addition to a team, but is far from an impact player teams will pay top dollar for.
47. LB Jamie Collins – New England Patriots
Age: 30
2019 Stats: 16 games, 81 Comb. Tackles, 7 sacks, 10 TFLs, 10 PD, 3 INT, 3 FF, 1 FR, 1 TD, PFF Grade: 75.6
Collins has an intriguing case to be higher on the list, especially after the great year he had in 2019. The only cause to pause is the question of how much a “Patriots guy” he is. He was arguably as productive as any linebacker in his first stint with New England, but after he was dealt to the Browns, he was not the same player. I do not find it a coincidence that Collins’ best three years according to Pro Football Focus have all been in Foxborough. The seven-year pro may be better suited re-signing, but he may opt to score one last big contract.
48. OLB Kyle Van Noy – New England Patriots
Age: 28
2019 Stats: 15 games, 56 Comb. Tackles, 6.5 sacks, 7 TFLs, 15 QB Hits, 3 FF, 2 FR, 1 TD, PFF Grade: 83.6
Van Noy enjoyed a very productive year with the Patriots in 2019. He posted career bests in both sacks and quarterback hits, yet that may not be enough for an encore in New England. There are plenty of ties elsewhere, so Van Noy could jump ship to become a quality starter elsewhere.
49. DL Michael Brockers – Los Angeles Rams
Age: 29
2019 Stats: 16 games, 63 Comb. Tackles, 3 sacks, 3 TFLs, 9 QB Hits, PFF Grade: 74.6
In his eight years with the Rams, Brockers has been a quality starter, and very balanced against both the run and pass. He may not be the sexy pick to make an instant impact, but he gets the job done. He has also been very durable, missing only two games since his rookie year. There is mutual interest in a return, but the Rams will likely need a team-friendly deal to make that happen.
50. G Graham Glasgow – Detroit Lions
Age: 27
2019 Stats: 15 games, 0 Sacks Allowed, 3 Penalties, PFF Grade: 74.1
A free agent not getting much attention comes in the likes of Glasgow, who has thrived in multiple rolls over the past few years in Detroit. He has experience playing at both guard positions, as well as center due to both injuries to other players, and most recently the sudden retirement of T.J. Lang last off-season. He is a reliable player that does not give up many sacks and could command a high seven figure salary by plenty of teams looking for an upgrade on the interior who were not able to land the likes of Brandon Scherff or Joe Thuney.
51. LB Blake Martinez – Green Bay Packers
Age: 26
2019 Stats: 16 games, 155 Comb. Tackles, 3 sacks, 5 TFLs, 1 INT, 1 FF, PFF Grade: 58.7
